Phone call project
I think that my phone call project went very well even though this was out first time filming; there are several reasons why I think this is. Firstly I enjoyed the people who were in my group.(Tashan & Andre) together we worked very well and all 3 of us contributed to the task equally, by saying this I mean that all 3 of us put an effort in to get the project completed. Andre done most of the filming, and me and Tashan were the actors in this project. Another reason why I think my phone call project went well was because of the locations in which we used. Our first scenes were shot in the library. I think this was a good choice because the library is a quiet and calm place so it was easy for us to film without getting distracted. Our second location was behind the sports hall. This was also a good place to film because it was also quiet. The only problem we had with filming in this location was the wind. We had to use a range of different shot types, I think that we used all the shot types that we were asked to do very well being this our first time filming in this subject.

inside man

Inside man is very good thriller,in the trailer it shows alot of good codes and conventions of a thriller. The opening shot is a close up of a man ( likely to be the antagonist) talking about how he is planning to rob a bank. Within the trailer you can see that there are four bank robbers and they are all hiding there identity by covering there faces and wearing hats. By hiding there identity we dont know who they are. There is a antagonist who is the detective(Denzel Washington). Has has a big effect on the film bringing in a more wider audience because of his starring in the film. we see the film from inside the bank and outside the bank seeing both points of views.

Seven
What makes a thriller and how is this evident in seven?

Introduction
In this essay I will be writing about how the film seven and how it is a thriller analysing the different aspects such as the different micro and macro elements.

The film seven was directed by David Flincher in 1995 and was written by Kevin walker. Morgan Freeman, Brad Pitt, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kevin Spacey and R.Lee Ermey are the five main characters who star in this film.

Director David Fincher was born in Denver, Colorado in the U.S.A on the 28th of August 1962 and is currently 46.
He has made many films before including: Alien 3 in 1992,Seven in 1995 which raised 100milion us dollars, The Game in 1997, Panic Room in 2002 and Zodiac in 2007.

There are many different ways in which seven can be aimed at different people of different age groups different ethnicity and different genders.
In my opinion the film seven is aimed at the age group between 18 and 40.
The reason why I say it is aimed at the younger years of 18 year old is because of the thrilling side of seven which includes the blood and gore of the film which helps it make more of a thriller. Not only the thrilling side of seven but the action such as all the running and shooting involved in seven draws a younger target audience.
The reason why I say it is aimed at the older years of 40 is because of the intellectual side such as the thinking that you have to do when working out for example the littlest of things which could open and make you understand more and why this or that happens. Another reason as to why the elder side may be interested in seven is because the staring of Morgan Freeman. An elder character that has starred in many great films before. He could influence the elder audience to watch seven.

Seven is aimed at both genders. The reason I say that seven is not just aimed at one gender is because it is aimed at both genders. The reason why I say it is aimed at males is because the two protagonists are male and have a big effect on the film being the two detectives who we see throughout the whole film. The reason why I say it is aimed at females is because of Brad Pitts wife who plays a big part in the film being the protagonists wife who we see a lot of and has a big effect on the film at the end.

Seven is aimed at all backgrounds the reason why I say that seven is not just aimed at one ethnic background is because within the film there different races. (The two detectives are black and white).

Summerset and detective mills are shown towards us as tow very different types of characters. Summerset is and Detective Mills’s relationship is like father and son. (Summerset being the father & Detective Mills being the son) The reason why I say this is because Detective Mills is always getting stresses out and angry when he doesn’t know the answer to the next clue of the investigation. The reason why I say Summerset is like the Father is because he is always trying to calm down Detective Mills and Summerset always stays cool and under control really trying to think about how to solve the investigation.
The two main characters Summerset and Detective mills are shown to us as the good people as we follow them through out the whole film seeing everything happening from their perspective.

Seven being a thriller. Seven is a thriller not a horror this is because there is blood and some disturbing sights but not a lot such as blood and guts in every scene. In seven there are some things that are kept hidden such as the antagonist. We don’t get to see the antagonist so it keeps everyone guessing as to who is behind all of this. Inigma codes. Inigma codes is when something is being kept from us. This is shown when Detectives Mills and Summerset go to s shop to find out information about what was bout by John Doe. A picture was shown but the audience didn’t get to see what it was, but was later on revealed.

Seven is a perfect example of a equilibrium. This is shown throughout the seven days. Everything is normal until all the seven killings happen which makes the dis-equilibrium. A new equilibrium is made after the all the seven killings which makes the changes in the normality.
An equilibrium is when everything normal and then changes into a dis-equilibrium. A dis-equilibrium is when something has disturbed that normality. A new equilibrium is made. A new equilibrium is it is back to normal but something has changed.
Sound is a key feature in all thrillers especially when building up tension when something is about to happen. For example when John Doe takes Summerset and Detective Mills to the deserted area the tension builds when John Doe is on the floor in hand cuffs talking about how his plot has worked the music gradually gets louder and increases. Sound also has a major effect on seven in the closing stages when a man delivers a box with Stacey’s head. We don’t know what is in there whether it is a bomb or another clue or if we are going to see what is in the box. The sound in that scene has a major effect on the film making it more of a thriller.
Apart from the helicopter being non diegietic sound, the sound in the last scene was diegetic.

Lighting is another key feature in thrillers for setting the scenery. Throughout the whole of seven the scenes take place in dark places and in some of the scenes there is a lot of rain. But in the very last scene of seven the atmosphere is open and very bright.
The narrative of the film was linier. For example it counts down the seven days of the week. The view was also restricted as we could only see Detective mills and Summerset what their doing from their point of view. We don’t get to see when John Doe plans and plots his kills. We only see him at the beginning which at the time didn’t know it was him and at the ending when he turns himself in. In seven there are is also evidence of Inigma codes. Inigma codes is when something is being kept from us. This is shown when Detectives Mills and Summerset go to s shop to find out information about what was bout by John Doe. A picture was shown but the audience didn’t get to see what it was, but was later on revealed.

In conclusion seven use of narrative techniques and codes it makes it a good psychological thriller. The use of micro and macro elements such as sound and lighting seven is a good genre of a thriller.
